What’s New in WordPress 3.2

July the 4th was certainly a celebration for WordPress users as the new WordPress 3.2 version was released with lots of updates.

The new release is named “Gershwin” and according to the WordPress team is dedicated to the pianist and composer George Gershwin.

Updated User Interface

After upgrading to WordPress 3.2, most users will notice the improved Admin Dashboard User Interface (UI).

The overall UI is cleaner with less grey and more white and WordPress claims there is better typography and spacing making it easier to read and navigate through.

Minimalists will like the new option which collapses the RHS menu down to just the icons.

There is also a new full screen mode that makes editing pages and posts a delight, hiding the entire interface and allowing you to concentrate on your copywriting.

New Twenty Eleven Theme

The biggest change to the front end is the new Twenty Eleven theme which will keep WordPress bloggers happy.

Out of the box, the new Twenty Eleven theme supports HTML 5 and its layout will work with browsers, tablets and smart phones.

This is the biggest overhaul of WordPress since 2008 with “over 400 improvements and fixes” under the bonnet.

Of course all these goodies comes at a cost in terms of the required browser, PHP and MySQL versions.

WordPress 3.2  has dropped support for IE 6 and now requires PHP 5.2.4 and MySQL 5 as a minimum base system to install onto.

If you’re unsure then check with your hosting company.  They’ll be glad to let you know which versions of the above are running on your hosting plan.
