Google launches +1 button to compete with Facebook “Like”

Google +1 Button

Google have just announced on their Webmaster Central blog that they will be introducing a +1 button to Google Search results and as a button for website owners.

This seems to be a direct response to the popularity of the Facebook “Like” button.

The new social sharing +1 button will allow logged in Google users to recommend a website, service or advert.
Friends of the Google user will then see that their friend or contact recommended a link.

Google’s approach is to embed the +1 button in search results as well as allowing website owners to add the +1 button to their sites.

Soon you will start to see search results similar to that below.
